Located in Columbia and Dutchess counties, New York, within the Taconic Mountains, Taconic State Park is a public recreation area north of New York City. With a total land area of 14,400 contiguous acres, the state park is contained by one of the biggest unfragmented forests between the states of Maine and Virginia. It is even designated by The Nature Conservancy as one of the “Last Great Places” in the country. How to Get to

The two largest major U.S. cities close to Taconic State Park are New York City and Boston. For those coming from New York City, begin the route by getting onto FDR Dr. from Spruce St and Frankfort St. Continue along FDR Dr. Next, you will want to travel along I-87 N, Sprain Brook Pkwy N, and Taconic State Parkway N to 2/Jackson Corners Rd. The final step is to take Co Rte 7 and County Rd 7 to NY-344 E in Copake Falls.
If you are coming from Boston, start the drive by getting onto I-93 S from Sudbury St. The second step is to follow I-90 W to NY-22 S in Canaan and get off at exit B3 when it comes up. Lastly, all you have to do is take NY-22 S to NY-344 E in Copake Falls.

The park is known for being a rustic camping location. There are 36 RV sites; however, you may have to make extra preparations before your visit because sites do not have hookups. The park's camping area is closed from December through April.
You do not have to make a reservation to stay at Taconic State Park, but the park recommends that you do so. You can arrange for a campsite until 3:00 pm on the day you arrive if a spot is available. Rates start at $15 a night, with a $5 additional fee for RVers who do not reside in New York state.
Guests are welcome to bring two pets to the park. Pets are allowed in the campsites and day-use areas unless prohibited by a sign. Park rules mandate that dogs must be under your supervision and on a 6-foot leash at all times. You must also provide proof of your furry companion's rabies vaccination upon request.
